The Governing Board
The ARCB® is governed by the corporate by-laws and a seven member board of directors who serve without compensation. The directors come from across the United States. The membership, structure, powers and duties of the Board of Directors are established and defined in the Bylaws of the American Reflexology Certification Board®. Six of the seven directors are practicing reflexologists on either a full or part time basis, who represent the profession and practitioner community and one director may be a ‘public member’ who is not a reflexologist and represents the public interest.
How Directors Are Selected & Length of Service
Candidates for director are nominated and invited to join the board after peer review by the current directors. Considerations include, but are not limited to the candidate’s background, skills, geographic location, dedication to the field and a firm belief in the importance of certification.
A director will hold office for a minimum of two (2) years and may serve an unlimited number of additional consecutive years as is in their interest and the interest of the board. A director is free to resign at any time.
Those having their own reflexology method, charts, or who has authored a technique book, video/DVD on instructing others how to do reflexology, or have a vested interest in such are not eligible to serve as a director due to potential conflict of interest.
Role of Directors
Directors may serve in governing or administrative roles and/or committees.
Directors may serve as exam proctors.
Directors meet periodically through conference calls and at an annual retreat to conduct business.
Directors serve in the selection of new board members, indentification and development of future leaders, and orientation of newly appointed directors.
Directors are ‘representatives at large’ of the field of reflexology and its practitioner community; and must conduct themselves with the highest level of professionalism and commitment.
