Exam Fees and Time limits

  • US $325 + (effective January 1, 2020) US $65 non-refundable background check fee. Background check fee is subject to change depending on jurisdiction. Applications that do not meet all requirements will be subject to a $50 processing fee with the remainder of the application fee ($275) being returned to the applicant.

Prerequisites

  • Be 18 years of age or older and (effective January 1, 2020) pass ARCB®-conducted background check,

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent,

  • Have completed a foot reflexology course through certification (if available) consisting of a minimum of 110 hours of classroom instruction which meets ARCB® defined content/subject requirements,

  • Provide a Certificate of Attendance and verification (in English) from the school/instructor verifying the number of hours attended and subjects taught.

  • Have completed a hand reflexology course through certification (if available) consisting of a minimum of 30 hours of classroom instruction which meets ARCB® defined content/subject requirements,

  • Provide a Certificate of Attendance and verification (in English) from the school/instructor verifying the number of hours attended and subjects taught.

Exam Structure

  • 300 question (true/false and multiple choice) written exam covering:

    • Human anatomy and physiology, body systems

    • Anatomy and physiology, kinesiology and bio-mechanics specific to the foot and ankle,

    • Reflexology definition, scope of practice, history, theory, foot reflex chart and guidelines, techniques and areas of emphasis,

    • Business Practices including ethics, standards, precautions and client records,

    • Any necessary interpreter must be pre-approved by our office.

 

  • Practical (hands-on) exam consisting of:

    • Performance of reflexology techniques on the foot to the American Standard thumb and finger walking, flow, pressure, relaxation techniques,

    • Client communication skills through answering questions during delivery of reflexology,

    • Any necessary interpreter must be pre-approved by our office.

 

  • Documentations in English (using ARCB® provided forms) 30 client sessions total consisting of:

    • 10 clients seen for 3 sessions each,

    • Session length must be 45 – 60 minutes each,

    • Recording your ability to detect and record areas of sensitivity, observations, monitor work on clients and their reactions,

    • Documentations must be post-graduate (cannot be the same used for your school certification training),

    • All documentations must be submitted not later than 6 months after applicant passes written and practical exam,

    • If English is a second language, the applicant is responsible for submitting documentations translated to English at applicant’s expense.

How to Apply to Take the Exam

Complete the appropriate Foot or Hand Exam Application on this site or download/print the Exam Application form and submit together with your Exam Fee to the ARCB®. You must submit all information as detailed in the application instructions. Then also download/print Records Release and School Verification Form. Complete the Records Release portion and send it together with the School Verification form portion to your school to complete and send back directly to the ARCB® office. Note that the Records Release and School Verification Form cannot be submitted online through the website as they must be mailed to your school. Effective January 1, 2020, upon receipt of e-mail from us, complete the required background check application and release form.

Study Guide, Additional Resource Materials, Study Tips, Documentation Forms

Upon approval of your application and receipt of your fee and the verification form from your school, you will receive a copy of the appropriate Foot or Hand Study Guide, containing study materials, forms, detailed instructions, additional resource materials (recommended reading materials), sample test questions and study tips. The Study Guide contains necessary anatomy and physiology and appropriate reflex chart information. Your use of some of the additional resource material books listed in the Study Guide may help you to improve your knowledge in the anatomy and physiology, body systems and areas of emphasis. You may reproduce the forms in the Study Guide for your use in completing the documentations portion. If you would like to receive an electronic version of the forms contained in the Study Guide(s) to print, you may request those from our office.

Scoring and Results Notification

You must pass the written examination with a score of 75% or higher. Practical and documentation portions of the exam are graded on a scale of 1.0 to 5.0, with 1.0 being the best score. A passing score is from 1.0 to 3.0. Test results are provided through the US Mail within 4 to 6 weeks after the test or submission of documentations. If you fail any portion of the exam, you must retake that portion within 24 months.
